The animal-human bond is stronger than many people realize. The special kinship between animals and humans has been around for as long as humanity itself. Animals have been our companions, our laborers, our protectors, our food source, even our source of entertainment for thousands of years.
As animal lovers and mental health professionals, we recognize the intensity of the animal-human bond and just how difficult it can be to lose a cherished companion. Losing an animal may be anticipated due to illness, age, or injury, or it may be completely unexpected. In some cases, one may grapple with the gut-wrenching option of planned euthanasia. In every case, the grieving process is unique. Sometimes it's a challenge that may require a little extra support.
We offer services for adults and children needing help in weathering the loss or impending loss of a pet or working service animal. We're also available to provide parents with guidance on how they can help their children grieve healthfully at home--and advise when there may be a need for professional help.
